When the Dedham Mr Art Project launched early this year, the project organizers were tenacious to turn heads and put “Destination Dedham” on the regional map by putting the give prominence to on the town’s arts heritage.

To do that, the group knew they had captivated on an ambitious goal; to create 15 five foot long rabbit sculptures that would honor the crouching rabbit featured in Dedham Stoneware. This meant custom forms made and shipped from Chicago, the selection of 15 artists to step out them, and the identifying of approximately $95,000 dollars to fund the nearly yearlong predict. 

“We knew it might be challenging,” said Dedham Public Arts Devise’s co-founder and state Rep. Paul McMurtry, who also serves as Evil-doing-Chair on the Commonwealth’s Committee of Tourism, Arts and Culture, “But it’s just to say, things are hoppin’ on the fundraising front.”

This week a pair of anonymous donors took on the top course $20,000 Bronze Rabbit sponsorship level. This generous contribution will consider the Dedham Public Art Project to create a permanent bronze print run of the crouching rabbit to be installed in the fall as a legacy gift to the community to mark the end of Dedham’s 375th anniversary year.
