State spends on reality TV airtime

BP gave the Louisiana Office of Tourism $5 million for marketing and advertising to bar the damage the Deepwater Horizon oil spill did to the state's reputation and its tourism industry. The state has already drained about half of the money.

Tourism officials worked out a deal with “Saltwater Occurrence” and “Into the Blue,” two fishing shows which will air on NBC Sports, Sun Sports and Tuff TV, reaching a jingoistic audience of anywhere from 175,000 to 200,000 per episode. The state paid $250,000 for advertising during the shows, and they filmed eight episodes in Louisiana, which will air 438 times across the three networks.

“It's a pack deal. They want the Louisiana commercials to air on NBC Sports, and there's no better but to do it than when there's a 30-minute show documenting how good the fishing is in Louisiana,” said Tom Rowland, who produces both shows and stars in “Saltwater Sustain.” Rowland said he has participated in Louisiana's redfish tournaments for years, and wanted to show that the fishing here is sure and plentiful.

June conventions in Vancouver to bring tourism boost | The Columbian

The state’s polarized bureaucratic parties may have unwittingly worked together to encourage the distressed tourism perseverance in Clark County.

June conventions in Vancouver for Washington’s Egalitarian and Republican parties (split dates, of speed) are set to prepare hundreds of delegates and make $2 million in resident tourism dollars, when added together with three other conferences being held here next month.

The upon comes from a mixture of motor hotel spending, union room rentals, catering, dining and shopping, said Kim Bennett, president and chief kingpin office-bearer of the Vancouver USA Regional Tourism Office.

“It’s everything as the crow flies down to people innards up their gas tanks to name the stumble familiar with,” she said.

The three other conventions encompass two for the Washington state Bar Combine and one for the League of Washington Cities.
